Aawaz Social Welfare Organization Spreads Warmth: New & Old Clothes Distributed to Over 105 Children in Simulbari and New Chumta Tea Estate Areas
In a joyful and much-needed initiative to support underprivileged families during the winter season, Aawaz Social Welfare Organization successfully organized a clothes distribution program on Saturday, February 7, 2026, targeting children and mothers in tea garden communities near Siliguri.
The event focused on two key locations: Simulbari (a tea garden village in the Kurseong block) and the Siliguri division under New Chumta Tea Estate (also known as New Chumta or Chumta Tea Garden), a historic tea estate in the foothills of the Himalayas, located in the Matigara area near Siliguri.
The distribution drive provided new and gently used warm clothing – including sweaters, jackets, trousers, frocks, shirts, socks, caps, and blankets – specially prioritized for children to help them stay protected from the chilly Terai and Dooars winter weather.
At Simulbari, the program saw enthusiastic participation from nearly 70 children, who lined up excitedly to receive their packets of clothes. Many came with their parents or guardians from the tea worker families, expressing happiness at getting fresh warm wear for school and daily life.
In the New Chumta Tea Estate area (Siliguri division), more than 35 children attended, along with several mothers carrying small babies. The presence of infants highlighted the need for baby clothes, blankets, and maternal warm wear in these remote garden pockets, where access to affordable winter essentials remains limited.
Volunteers from Aawaz Social Welfare Organization, along with local community helpers, managed the smooth distribution, ensuring every child received appropriately sized items. The clothes were collected through donations from generous supporters in Kurseong, Siliguri, and beyond, then sorted, cleaned, and packaged for maximum impact.
“This winter clothes distribution is part of our ongoing commitment to child welfare and community support in tea garden areas,” shared a representative from Aawaz NGO. “Children in Simulbari and New Chumta often face harsh winters with inadequate clothing. By providing these essentials, we aim to keep them healthy, help them attend school regularly, and bring a little joy to their lives.”
Tea garden communities like Simulbari and New Chumta are home to thousands of workers and their families who rely on seasonal agriculture. Such initiatives address basic needs, reduce health risks from cold-related illnesses, and foster goodwill between NGOs and local residents.
Families expressed deep gratitude, with many parents noting how the clothes would make a real difference in their children’s daily comfort and confidence.
Aawaz Social Welfare Organization continues its mission of upliftment through regular drives – from health camps and education support to disaster relief and seasonal aid – across Kurseong subdivision and surrounding areas. The NGO plans more winter-focused distributions in the coming weeks to reach additional vulnerable pockets.
